Found during excavations at The Broadway, Winchester, in the late 1930s

The heads of these small pins were formed by wrapping the wire from which they were made once or more around the shaft. This long-lived type dates from the late medieval period onwards and was used as a dress fastener as well as for holding cloth together for sewing.
