Beetle, Trypocopris vernalis
A focus-stacked image of the earth-boring dung beetle, Trypocopris vernalis, found at Langdale, Westmorland, England in June 1929 by KG Blair.
The Spring Dor Beetle, or Spring Dumbledor, Trypocopris vernalis, may be found in open habitats as well as some woodlands, where their larvae are known to feed on the dung of sheep, cattle, horses and foxes.
The larvae may also feed on decomposing carrion, and research has indicated that the more advanced the decay, the stronger the smell, the greater is the attraction for these beetles!
