Charlie Chester - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

Charlie Chester - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

This teddy bear was named Charlie Chester and belonged to Mr William Simpson, an avid collector of more than 250 teddy bears. This teddy has a swivel head and jointed limbs. He wears a red velvet top with a large gilt button, a red neck ribbon with white spots, homemade coffee-coloured trousers and a cardboard cap covered with the same material. The cap is adorned with a red band and a gold paper badge and is attached to the bear's head by an elastic that goes around his chin.

Charlie Chester was purchased in a tourist information shop in Chester (hence his name). According to Mr Simpson, he is 'supposed to have been made in the Far East'.
