Cheryl - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

Cheryl - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

This teddy bear was named Cheryl and belonged to Mr William Simpson, an avid collector of more than 250 teddy bears. This teddy has a swivel head and jointed limbs. Her clothes (some of which have been packed separately) consist of a red tartan neck ribbon, a  "shot silk" skirt (which has suffered bad infestation damage), a red velvet top with a filigree brooch to fasten and an elasticated band of patterned fabric, which is possibly meant to go around the bear's head.

Cheryl was purchased in 1997 at a Safeway store in Bridport. She was intended to be a friend for Charlie Chester (HMCMS:D2008.3.14). Mr Simpson notes that Cheryl's label 'would seem to indicate that she was made as a special contract for distribution among Safeway stores'.
