scenes from European mythology occur on Chinese export porcelain in the period 1735-1755; here Paris, the son of King Priam, holds the golden apple which he is to present to the most beautiful of three goddesses, Juno, Minerva and Venus; Juno is accompanied a few paces away by her peacock (apparently doing a double-take at the unusual scene), Minerva has her spear, cloak and shield, which is partly concealed and held by Cupid, who accompanies Venus
