'Follis' of Constantius II

Roman, AD348-361

Unknown provenance

The Roman empire in the 4th century was very different from that of earlier centuries. For instance, there were usually several emperors at one time, often assisted by junior emperors or Caesars. The types of coins issued are some of the most commonly found in Britain. This is one of a large series of bronze coins produced from AD348 onwards with the legend FEL TEMP REPARATIO ('Happy days are here again'). The series commemorates the hopes associated with teh 1100th anniversary of the foundation of Rome.
