Condom wrapper

Twentieth century, possibly WW2

Found during excavations by Winchester Museums Service Archaeology Section at Twyford Down (Dongas), Winchester in 1994

The legend reads 'MFD BY THE KILLIAN MFG. CO., AKRON, OHIO, U. S. A. Silver Tex ONE PROPHYLACTIC'. The object was found in a layer predating an aerial photograph of 1948, and the speculation is that it might have been lost at the Dongas towards the end of the war, when American GIs were in town for embarcation to France. It was found on 6th June, 1994, the 50th anniversary of the D-day landings- uncanny coincidence or just wishful thinking?
