Hoard of six imperial silver denarii
Roman, AD81-AD161
Found, using a metal detector, in the Winchester area
The earliest coin belongs to the reign of Domitian while the latest are struck in the names of the emperor Antoninus Pius and his wife Faustina I. There is also a coin of Trajan and two of the emperor Hadrian. The provenance is uncertain but likely to be in the Winchester area at a site where a number of other hoards have been found. This might indicate a ritual deposition on a sacred site.
