Horse Harness Pendant

A medieval copper alloy horse harness pendant

A copper alloy horse harness pendant made between c.1270 - 1340. Horse harness pendants would of been decorative pieces attached to the most visible parts of the horse harness and most likely there would of been multiple complimenting each other. On the display face of this pendant there are traces of a gold gilding and enamel to help make the pendant visible and eye catching as a symbol of wealth or importance. The design on the display face is heraldic in nature with a lion rampart and two zoomorphic designs on either sides.

This horse harness pendant was unearthed by a metal detectorist around the Winchester area.
