Found during excavations by Winchester Museums Service Archaeology Section at Chester Road, Winchester, in 1976

This attractive object is unusual in its proportions, being rather short. It is also decorated in an unusual way at one end, with an applied strip of iron forming a cross with rounded ends. The item was originally plated with brass.
