Lead Token

A Medieval cast lead token

A lead token, produced in the Medieval period, decorated with a 6 petaled daisy with 6 dots, one in between each petal, on the obverse while the reverse has the initials `T.C`. Token's were used in numerous ways, predominantly in small scale dealings as a substitute for real coinage or as reckoning counters as lead is a cheaper material. However, they were most commonly used as tickets, passes or as a note (chit). Lead tokens can come in variable sizes and various designs, however in order to individualize them people had their initials engraved or cast on the reverse.

This token was unearthed by a metal detectorist around the Winchester area.
