Domed copper-alloy mount

Medieval, probably late 13th or early 14th century in date

Found during excavations by Winchester Museums Service Archaeology Section at St Bartholomew's School, Saxon Road, Winchester, Hampshire in 1983

The mount would have been used along with others to make decorative patterns on a leather belt, a shoe or on horse harness. It was found in the forecourt of Hyde Abbey, near St Bartholomew's Church, and might have been lost there by one of the abbey's many visitors or pilgrims.
