Medieval openwork found in Crondall
Openwork copper alloy hollow head of roughly biconical form, possibly the head of a staff or the end of a rope, perhaps for dress, medieval, circa 1050-1200 AD, from Crondall, Hampshire.
With an integral, circular-section, tapering shaft 10mm across. At the apex of the head is a round hole; there are also twelve roughly triangular interlocking holes forming an upper tier or band of apertures and a further four below that. The shaft is bisected by an iron rivet.
