Mother and Child in Prayer

Lithophane, porcelain, smear glazed, with small embossed metal clip and ring for suspension, a scene composed within an oval showing a mother instructing her small child in prayer, the border with a cross in each corner; impressed pattern number 205 and smaller number 61 on back, made at the Meissen factory, Saxony, Germany, c1840.

The scene is described in Meissen’s price list as ‘Mutter Kind beten lehrend’, or ‘Mother (and) child learning to pray’
