Mug for Basingstoke and Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation Appeal, 1996.

A white china drinking mug decorated with a 'REHAB' logo for the Basingstoke and Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation Appeal, 1996.

In 1976, the Basingstoke and Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation unit opened, working with cardiac patients at Alton Sports Centre. This practice became known as 'Cardiac Rehab' with the name becoming synonymous with the charity itself from the charity's inauguration in 1992. Fundamentally, the aim of the charity was to construct a new facility to provide better facilities. This led to a large scale fundraising project which raised approximately £400,000 for the opening of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre. Significantly, Cardiac rehab is not part of the National Health Service making it the first community based cardiac rehabilitation unit in the UK. The knowledge, passion and experience which the charity members held made them essential in the creation of the British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation in 1992.
