Taken on 6th May 1935

The procession in Winchester to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of George V's accession was a fine affair, making its way from the Barracks to the Cathedral for a service of thanksgiving accompanied by the bands of the RAF and the 4th Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment. A wide variety of people and organisations was represented in addition to the military and civic authorities - from nursing staff to postmen and railway employees, from school children to solicitors and architects, the various Friendly Societies with their banners and regalia and the Women Citizens Association, the Brethren of St Cross and Christ's Hospital, the Salvation Army and the British Legion, the Scouting movement, clergy, magistrates and academics.....

Here part of the procession waits to enter the Cathedral, the trees show the freshness of May time and two young lads have found themselves a good vantage point from which to watch the proceedings.

The photograph was taken by Winchester photographer F B Heathcote Wride.
