Photograph of Teague and King at 75 High Street, Winchester

Taken about 1885

Teague and King's Music Saloon was part of Winchester's commercial life for almost a century from the 1880s, although they only occupied the premises shown here up to about 1890. The services they offered included selling pianofortes on the hire purchase system from ten shillings per month (in 1889) and sending piano tuners to all parts of the county.

The ironwork on this building is worthy of note, as is the Winchester Horticultural Society's advertisement for a grand summer exhibition at the Guildhall.

The photograph was taken by Winchester photographer William Savage (1817-87) and is found in an album entitled 'Winchester Views of Modern Buildings'.
