Photograph of Briar Cottage, Church Lane, King's Worthy

Taken in 1873

King's Worthy lies just north of Winchester. The most striking feature of this timber-framed and thatched cottage is that it appears to be covered in trellis-work. The Victorian lady has chosen to be photographed with her servants in the background - two young women stand in front of the cottage to the left and to the right the gardener rolls the lawn.

The photograph was taken by Winchester photographer William Savage (1817-87) and is found in an album of his work.
