Photograph of Exton Rectory, Exton

Taken about 1870

This large rectory with its fine grounds served the small village church of St Peter and St Paul at Exton. The size of the house would have been appreciated by the Reverend George Saulez, the incumbent at Exton in the 1860s and early 1870s who is seen here holding his top hat; he and his wife Eliza had thirteen children.

Cricket was clearly a popular sport - three of the boys hold cricket bats.

The photograph was taken by Winchester photographer William Savage (1817-87) and is found in an album entitled 'Hampshire Views of Churches, Country Houses and Public Buildings'.
