Photograph of St Maurice's Church, High Street, Winchester

Taken about 1870

The Church of St Maurice, incorporating a Norman tower from the original church on this site, was designed by William Gover and built in 1841-2. The Victorian building was demolished in 1958 although the Norman tower remains. This image shows its High Street frontage and adjacent premises.

The photograph was taken by Winchester photographer William Savage (1817-87) and is found in an album entitled 'Hampshire Views of Churches, Country Houses and Public Buildings'.
