Photograph of a child in a garden at Wonston

Taken about 1865

This informal photograph of a little boy sitting on a garden seat in Wonston, about six miles north of Winchester, gives an insight into such varied aspects of Victorian life as dress, toys, furniture and gardening in about 1865. Note in particular the toy horse on wheels and the small wooden wheelbarrow.

The photograph was taken by Winchester photographer William Savage (1817-87) and is found in an album entitled 'Hampshire Views of Churches, Country Houses and Public Buildings'.
