Lithophane, porcelain, smear glazed, rectangular, showing a large group of peasants in a field lamenting the town or village blazing furiously in the distance; impressed mark on back 'HPM 29', made by the Hennebergsche Porzellan Manufaktur, Gotha, Thuringia, Germany, mid 19th century.

The source is a painting of about 1840, 'Landleute vom Gewitter überrascht' (Peasants surprised by a storm) by Jakob Becker, now in the Neue Pinakothek, Munich.
