Pot Sherds

Winklebury Pot Sherds

Excavations in Winklebury took place in the mid-1970s, following planning applications for Fort Hill School finding evidence of occupation during both the Early and the Late Iron Age. These pot sherds could be evidence of farming and storage or of creation a trade.

The photograph below shows the quern stone, loomweight, and pot sherd in the Basingstoke's My Home exhibition (November 2024-March 2025) celebrating immigration in Basingstoke throughout time.

This object was audited and researched as part of the Heritage Fund Data Hunters and Story Gatherers project.
