Copper-alloy buckle

Medieval, 13th to 15th century

Found in the 1970s during excavations by Winchester Museums Archaeology Section at Victoria Road, Winchester, Hampshire

This quite elaborate large buckle is missing its pin, which would have fitted in the notches in the centre of the two bars on the right. There are traces of iron around the central bar, probably from a folded attachment plate which has not survived.
