School hat

Schoolgirl's hat, Andover Grammar School

Schoolgirl's hat as worn at Andover Grammar School. Black wool, four segment crown trimmed with large black and cream silk tassel (which indicated the wearer was a prefect), turned up front and back brim sections trimmed top-stitching. The school emblem of red hand against yellow sunburst is embroidered on the front, lined black cotton, maker's label Ernex. Hats and caps ceased to be part of the uniform in 1968/69. Thank you to a former pupil of the school for identifying the cap as girl's hat.
