Shilling - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

Shilling - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

This teddy bear was named 'Shilling' by Mr William Simpson who was an avid collector of more than 250 teddy bears. It is made of pale honey coloured fabric with a swivel head, jointed limbs and a narrow pale gold neck ribbon edged with silver from which hangs a genuine 1965 shilling with guilt surround. 'Shilling' is embroidered on its back left pad. This is a boxed Merrythought bear made for Compton and Woodhouse, part of a group called the Money Bears. It is a limited edition version no. 60 of 2,450.

Mr Simpson purchased a set of six ‘Money bears’ in 2002 including Farthing, Ha'penny, Penny, Thrupence, Sixpence, and Shilling.
