Decorative Egg
Modern, 2000
A silver decorative egg with gold gilt, known as the Millennium Egg and manufactured by Jeremy France Jewellers, Winchester in 2000.
The outside of the egg is decorated with motifs representing Winchester including Winchester and Hampshire arms, a Hampshire Rose, an etched medieval style map of Winchester and a poem specially written for the egg. The top half of the egg hinges open to reveal a Hampshire Hog stood astride King Arthur's Round Table.
The egg is presented each year, jointly by Winchester City Council and Hampshire Council, to the winner of the Business Excellance Award. Former winners include the Hat fair, Hampshire Farmers' Market, North Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The Wykham Arms and Workhouse Limited.
The egg forms part of Winchester City's Civic Silver collection.
