Cast copper alloy livery style post medieval button

A cast copper alloy livery style button depicting a hunting dog. Using the writing on the back of the button it is possible to date this button to 1837-38. This button is made by the Firmin company which is still operational today and was founded back in 1655. Livery style objects use crests and symbols to quickly identify important houses, family's and groups of people originating back to when knights would wear them to identify friend from foe. This button has a surviving silver gilding on the front which would of further helped its recognize-ability. The back states "P&S FIRMIN, 153 STRAND LONDON, & 13 CONDUIT ST"

This button was unearthed by a metal detectorist around the Winchester area.
