old display label reads; Teapot: medium cream: the badly potted oval body and yellow glaze with horizontal crazing, oval loop handle faceted on inside, octagonal spout and button knop with central steam vent confirm its Cockpit Hill, Derby origin. The finely painted bird (tulip on reverse) in Venetian red and black has highlights which have been scratched with a pointed tool and as these designs also occur in Leeds, 1770-1775, after Rhodes had left for London, the enamelling is most likely the work of Jasper robinson of Leeds.
