Thruppence - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

Thruppence - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

This teddy bear was named ‘Thruppence’ by Mr William Simpson who was an avid collector of more than 250 teddy bears. This teddy bear is made out of honey coloured shaggy fabric, and has a gold neck ribbon holding a gilt frame medallion with a 1967 threepenny piece inset. This is a boxed Merrythought bear made for Compton and Woodhouse, part of a group called the Money Bears. It is a limited edition version no. 53 of 2,450.

Mr Simpson purchased a set of six ‘Money bears’ in 2002 including Farthing, Ha'penny, Penny, Thrupence, Sixpence, and Shilling.
