Tilly - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

Tilly - William Simpson Teddy Bear Collection

This teddy bear was named Tilly and belonged to Mr William Simpson, an avid collector of more than 250 teddy bears. She wears various home-knitted garments, jewellery and a straw hat.

Tilly is part of a family of teddy bears consisting of Tino, Rupert, Roberta, Nicholas, Nicola, Lord Meight, and Lady Sidonie. She was purchased in 1954 in Sopers Department in Harrow. She was intended to be a friend for Tino (HMCMS:D2008.3.3) - Mr Simpson's label describes them as 'an inseparable pair'. However, Tilly did not partake in as many adventures as Tino, a fact that is reflected in her better condition.

Tilly has a plastic nose that is similar to that of Roberta (HMCMS:D2008.3.2). According to Mr Simpson, Tilly is 'a fairly cheap toy' whose manufacturer is unknown. He believes that she is likely to be an 'imported product'.
