Lithophane, porcelain, smear glazed, showing a young couple in medieval dress in a wood, the young man helping his companion to cross a stream, two glaze-filled holes in upper edge for suspension; impressed pattern number 1299 and mark consisting of initials 'PR' within the curve of a reaping hook on back, probably made in Germany for the French market, c1890-1910

Lithophanes bearing this mark or the words ‘Lithophanie Francaise’ are now thought to be late 19th- early 20th century products of the Plauesche Porzellanmanufactur in Thuringia made for the French market
