Youth and girl fleeing lightning

Lithophane Youth and girl fleeing lightning

Lithophane, porcelain, smear glazed, showing a youth and girl fleeing lightning on a hillside, two glaze-filled suspension holes in top edge; impressed pattern number 1484 on back, probably made by the Plauesche Porzellanmanufactur, Plaue, Thuringia, Germany, after 1880.

The source for this scene is 'La Tempete' (The Storm), a painting dating to 1880 by the French artist Pierre Auguste Cot, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
